Inside the book
Read the territory before designing.
Cristian Álvarez reads Latin American architecture through its real working conditions: territory, climate, materials, budgets and everyday life. As a communicator, technologist and creator of platforms for architecture and design, he observes those processes from outside architectural practice.
The book develops the idea of “intelligent scarcity”: precise responses to concrete constraints, without romanticising limited resources or treating the region as one uniform school. It moves from pre-Columbian territorial systems, incremental housing, local materials and public space to mobility, data and artificial intelligence in territorial decisions.
Four reading threads
Ideas running through the book.
Territory before form
Climate, soil, materials and daily life become project inputs rather than an abstract backdrop.
Intelligent scarcity
Constraints are studied precisely to build a testable response without romanticising scarcity.
Memory and attribution
Documenting a work means preserving authorship, sources, decisions and context so knowledge can travel.
Data for the city
Mobility and territorial intelligence are examined as reviewable tools serving the people who inhabit a place.
